Barlows Christmas Fundraising!

Christmas is a time for giving.

In the run up to Christmas this year we have held many fundraising events at our offices to raise money for the Barlows Foundation. From various Christmas Jumper Days and a Macmillan Morning, our staff have managed to raise a total of £472.44 which will be split between some very important causes.

We are donating to The Royal Manchester Children’s Hospital, they provide specialist healthcare services for children and young people throughout the North West, as well as nationally and internationally. The hospital sees 200,000 patient visits each year across a range of specialties including oncology, haematology, bone marrow transplant, burns, genetics, and orthopaedics. It has been designed so that all departments are close to the equipment and support that they need. This means patients and staff don’t have to travel far within the hospital. With 371 beds it is the largest single-site children’s hospital in the UK. In particular we are supporting Ward 84, a specialised oncology and haematology inpatient unit for children and young people, based at RMCH. Family’s need support all year round but it is especially important at Christmas time, we hope that our donation can make a real difference to a family’s Christmas this year.

As well as donating to Macmillan, this year we were made aware that a Year 6 girl who attends Malpas Primary School has been critically ill in Alder Hey Hospital in Liverpool. She has undergone several major operations and for a long time was on a life support machine. Sadly, she developed complications and infections which led to amputations of her right leg. With the Barlows Foundation being set up to help people in our community, we were able to raise £150 to help the family during this incredibly tough time.
