Barlows Gender Pay Gap

The construction sector has historically been predominantly male, particularly within engineering roles. As a result, many of our senior positions—such as Directors and Contract Managers—are currently held by men, most of whom progressed through our apprenticeship programme.

We are committed to encouraging greater female representation across all areas of our business, especially in engineering roles. While we are proud to employ a number of female engineers, the level of female applicants for these positions remains low. We recognise that this may reflect longstanding societal perceptions around gender roles, and we are actively working with local schools and communities to help challenge and change these views.

At present, women make up a smaller proportion of our overall workforce, although some do hold senior positions within the Company. Female employees are more highly represented in departments such as accounts, HR, payroll, which are all managed by women, as well as administrative roles. This distribution contributes to our current gender pay gap.

Our commitment is to provide a fulfilling, diverse and inclusive place to work, with equality and fairness remaining at the heart of our business.
