Together with Clifford College, we held our first open day for Apprentice Applicants. We invited successful candidates into the college to get hands on experience of what it’s like to be an Electrical Apprentice at Barlows and Clifford College.
The day began with an introduction to Clifford College, basic housekeeping, health and safety and details about the overall qualification. Giving the candidates a clear image of what they will achieve by completing an apprenticeship. This was followed by a quick overview of the history of Barlows, where we started, who we work for and how we have grown to become the Nationwide contractor that we are today.
After being introduced to Barlows and Clifford College, the group were then split up into two groups for the interactive activities. One group were taking into the practical room and attempted to change plug tops, cut conduit, wire a light fitting and strip some cable. The other group practised writing formal letters by drafting a letter to our Managing Director, John Barlow. During these activities we held our interviews with the candidates so we could get to know the candidates better and make a final judgement on the successful applicants.
Finally, we finished off the day with a tour of Barlows facilities with Mark Holden, Director this included, our supplies warehouse (BES), Alarms departments and Head Office.
