We recently hosted work experience weeks for two local schools, providing students with a first hand glimpse into the world of work at Barlows. Our aim was to offer a complete experience across various departments, including business development, marketing, fleet management, project work, electrical installation, maintenance, on-site experience, health and safety, and accounting & finance.
We hope to have left a lasting impact on the students, enlightening them about the diverse opportunities that are available to them once they leave school.
During the week, students had the unique chance to delve into different areas of our business operations. From business development and marketing, where they discovered the art of specific planning and client relationship building to the hand-on experience in fleet management and electrical installation where they witnessed the meticulous planning and execution behind every successful project. The on-site experience not only showcased the dynamic nature of work but also emphasized the paramount importance of health and safety in all aspects of our operations. the students were guided by our experienced team members, who shared their knowledge and expertise.
Why Work Experience?
Offering work experience in the local community is very important to us for many reasons. Firstly, it provides young individuals with invaluable insights into the real-world of work, enabling them to explore various career paths and make informed decisions about their futures. By experiencing different industries and professions, students can discover their strengths and areas of expertise as well as helping them to find a career they would enjoy. Secondly, work experience helps Barlows build meaningful relationships with our community. Something we truly value and take great pride in! Finally, work experience serves as a bridge between education and employment, equipping students with practical skills and professional competencies that complement their academic knowledge.
We want to inspire and empower the next generation. During the work experience weeks, we hope the students thoroughly enjoyed their experience. As we shared our passion and expertise with the students, we couldn't help but feel hopeful about the possibilities that lie ahead. Hopefully we will see some of these talented students return next year as apprentices.
