An Electrical Installation Condition Report (EICR) is like an ‘MOT of the electrics’ in a property. An electrician will check the condition of an existing electrical installation against BS 7671, the UK Standard for the safety of electrical installations and then issue the property owner with an EICR.
An EICR should identify:
- Electrical circuits or equipment which are overloaded
- Potential electric shock risks and fire hazards
- Any lack of earthing or bonding
- Any defective electrical work
Tests are also carried out on the installation to check that it is safe.
Only NICEIC Approved Contractors can carry out NICEIC certified EICR’s and the frequency of an electrical inspection and test really depends on factors such as the type of installation and how it is used and maintained. For more information speak to one of our qualified Account Managers.
Portable appliance testing (PAT) is the term used to describe the examination of electrical appliances and equipment to ensure they are safe to use.
The Electricity at Work Regulations 1989 require that any electrical equipment that has the potential to cause injury is maintained in a safe condition. Regular portable appliance testing (PAT) supports organisations to meet their obligations under Health and Safety regulations.
We recommend that appliances are tested annually, although in special circumstances (heavy usage) this may be required more frequently.
Barlows are happy to provide a free reminder service so that you always remain compliant.
Barlows technicians can accurately detect existing faults with your electrical installation and predict potential future problems by the use of thermal imagery.
Thermal imaging uses thermal cameras to identify problem areas which show up as red spots making it easy for engineers to identify and diagnose.
The use of thermal imagery can secure the safety of users of the installation and save time and money on emergency repairs.
