Beach Day | Foundation Friday

02.09.21

On Friday 27th August, we had our 8th Foundation Friday campaign of the year! Over the last 18 months is has been difficult to get away for a well deserved holiday. As a result, we thought we'd bring the beach to the office! Our teams came dressed for a day at the beach! Everyone made an amazing effort, even bringing in deck chairs, hammocks and inflatables to truly get the full beach day experience! Our team managed to raise a total of £142.25 taking our total raised for the year to, £1,150.14!! This month we supported Jessica Sykes from our Manchester Branch. Jess took part in the Spectrum Night Walk in aid of the National Autistic Society. You can visit Jess' JustGiving Page here. The National Autistic Society aim to transform the lives of the 700,000 autistic adults and children currently in the UK and change attitudes towards autism by improving public understanding and helping businesses, local authorities and governments to provide better services and create autism friendly spaces. More information about this fantastic cause available on their website: https://www.autism.org.uk/what-we-do/who-we-are/our-mission-vision-and-values We would like to invite our local communities to get in contact and give us some suggestions on where we can use our funds or different Foundation Friday themes that we could try out! Barlows Continue Wrexham AFC Support | Stadium Improvements

05.08.21

As we continue our partnership with local football club Wrexham AFC, we had to get involved in the clubs latest stadium improvements for supporters with disabilities. The Club had a number of initiatives – led by DLO Kerry Evans – to improve the spectator experience for supporters with disabilities too. Wrexham AFC sought to revamp the sensory room in the Mold Road Stand, part of the Club's autism friendly commitments ready for the 2021 - 22 season. When we heard about Wrexham's plans to upgrade the current room, we knew we had to get involved. We sent engineer Andrew Armstrong down to install new lighting, a television and an improved heater to ensure a cosier room in the colder months of the season. Because of the huge impact this facility had in the community, it was only right that we completed this project free of charge. Matthew Scott, Director said; "It was great to work with the Club and Kerry on this project to help bring additional enjoyment to the great experience children already have at the Racecourse. The work carried out shows our great bond with the Club as a sponsor and support on what looks like an exciting ride ahead." We look forward to supporting Wrexham AFC in the upcoming season and hope the recent stadium improvements can be enjoyed by many fans of the Club soon!

Barlows Deliver Green Power for Major Client

04.08.21

We are delighted to have delivered the very latest in Power Generation technology to one of our major clients latest projects. With the help of IPG Ltd of Doncaster, and Perkins Engines, we were able to provide the UK's 1st Stage V Compliant Generator to provide low emission power at Safestore's latest site in Bow, London. The Stage V Unit will ensure low fuel consumption, low carbon emissions and Super Silent operation during the project which is due to be completed in December 2021. The low emissions story does not end there, as we have also provided a Hybrid Unit that runs alongside the Stage V Generator to provide daily hours of completely Carbon Neutral Power. "We are absolutely delighted to have been able to provide this power facility for our Client" Said John Allman, Barlows UK Ltd Director. "Given the site's location in Central London, and the impact noise and pollution would have on the local residential area, it was important that a viable & compliant solution was found." The Stage V Generator limits the particulate matter produced by Diesel engines, reducing air pollution, and Construction Manager, Andy Robinson was quick to point out Safestore's own commitment to environmental issues. "Safestore is committed to ensuring our buildings are constructed responsibly and their ongoing operation has a minimal impact on local communities and the environment. We have made significant progress in removing carbon emissions from our operations and we are very pleased to collaborate with our key construction partners in reducing the environmental impact of our store developments projects." Pictured left to right with the new Stage V unit are; Andy Robinson (Construction Manager at Safestore), John Allman (Director at Barlows UK Ltd) & Danny Sholl (Site Foreman at UC Build).

Cupcake Day | Alzheimer’s Society

21.06.21

There’s nothing like cake to bring people together. Last Thursday (17/06) we celebrate Alzheimer's Society's Cupcake Day and helped raise vital funds to support people affected by dementia. Along with a generous donation from local company Cheesecake by Sarah, our team baked and bought cakes to be enjoyed on the day! With a voluntary contribution for each cake going towards the Alzheimer's Society. How Cupcake Day helps Living with dementia bring challenges at the best of times, but coronavirus has made daily life the much harder. The Alzheimer's Society lifeline support services are there for people affected by dementia during this crisis and continue to be as the coronavirus pandemic endures. Thanks to the efforts of brilliant fundraisers, thousands of people living with dementia and their families can rely on Alzheimer’s Society for support, care and guidance. Our fantastic team raised an incredible £80.00 on the day, all going towards this fantastic cause!

Clifford College’s Apprentice of the Month (April)

05.05.21

A huge congratulations to Harvey Shorter who has won Clifford College's Apprentice of the Month for April. Harvey has won a £30 voucher that can be spent on tools! “Harvey is currently in his 2nd Year at Clifford College and ahead of his portfolio target, he constantly strives to better himself and the quality of his work, which has stood out over the last couple of months.” - Leigh Buckley, Clifford College Assessor We spoke to him after the award, here's what he had to say: “The apprenticeship scheme was perfect for me as it gave me the opportunity to leave school and kickstart my career whilst learning with a hands-on approach. The favourite part of the apprenticeship so far has been meeting new people everyday whilst being on different sites. Currently, an average work day includes a lot of remedial and testing work in domestic properties, this is something I would like to continue doing once I have completed my apprenticeship. I am looking forward to using my voucher to buy a new hacksaw or cutting tool!” Well done Harvey and thank you for all of your hard work & dedication! Keep up the good work!
